Inflammation, up close
A useful response, until it outstays its welcome.
Inflammation helps your body respond to injury and infection. Bringing that response to an end is part of recovery too. When it persists, it can contribute to the damage and symptoms of many long-term conditions.

01 · Calm
The everyday work of keeping you going.
Small blood vessels supply your tissues with oxygen and nutrients, while carrying away waste. Your cells use those supplies to maintain themselves and do their work.
02 · A signal
Something needs attention.
Injury or infection prompts chemical signals that call immune cells into the area. Blood vessels change to help those cells reach the tissue, which can cause warmth, redness and swelling.
03 · Switching off
Recovery includes knowing when to stop.
As the problem is brought under control, the body clears damaged material and actively settles the inflammatory response. Repair and resolution work together to help tissue recover.
04 · When it stays on
Sometimes the response keeps going.
An ongoing trigger or disrupted immune response can keep inflammation active. Over time, this can damage healthy tissue. Understanding what is driving it matters as much as recognising that it is there.
05 · Oxygen
More oxygen. An effect on inflammation.
Breathing concentrated oxygen under pressure increases the oxygen dissolved in your blood. Clinical studies have reported reductions in inflammatory markers following courses of HBOT, including in people with inflammatory bowel disease. The results depend on the condition and treatment protocol.
