Which panel should I choose?
Discover covers blood cell counts, kidney and liver function, cholesterol, longer-term blood sugar and inflammation markers. Depth includes all of these, plus ferritin, glucose, insulin, homocysteine, vitamin D, B12 and folate. The right choice depends on what you want to investigate or monitor. If you’re unsure, speak to us before booking.
How much does it cost, and what’s included?
Discover costs £199 and Depth costs £299. Both include your nurse appointment, laboratory testing, your results report and a plain-English walkthrough with the Breathe team. The omega-3 index and AA ratio are optional extras; ask us for pricing.
Why test before, during and after a course at Breathe?
Testing before you begin establishes a baseline. Later tests can show whether the measured markers have changed, giving you information to consider alongside how you feel. A mid-course test may be useful in some circumstances, but the timing should suit the marker and the person, rather than follow the same schedule for everyone.
Can the results show whether my therapy is working?
They can show changes in the markers tested, which may be useful when reviewing your progress. They cannot establish on their own what caused those changes. We consider them alongside your symptoms, medical care, lifestyle and the therapies you’ve been using.
Do I need to fast?
You may need to, depending on your panel and the lab’s requirements. Follow the preparation instructions for your appointment, which will explain whether fasting is needed and for how long. If fasting is required, plain water is generally allowed. Ask our nurse beforehand if you have diabetes, take medication with food or have any concerns about fasting.
Should I stop taking medication or supplements beforehand?
Tell our nurse what you take before your appointment. Some medicines and supplements can affect results, but you should not stop prescribed medication unless your treating clinician advises you to. We’ll explain any preparation needed for your particular tests.
Who takes my blood, and how long does it take?
A registered nurse takes your sample at Breathe. The blood-test appointment is booked for 15 minutes, and your sample is then sent to the laboratory for analysis.
I’m nervous about needles. Can you help?
Please tell us. Our nurse can talk you through what will happen and help you get comfortable before starting. Let us know if you’ve previously fainted or found blood tests difficult, so we can take that into account.
How long will my results take?
The turnaround time is seven days. We’ll share your report and go through the results with you, explaining each marker in plain English. You’ll also have a copy to keep.
Will someone explain my results, or do I need to pay extra?
Your results are always shared and explained as part of the panel price. The Breathe team will walk you through what each marker measures, whether your result falls within the laboratory’s reference range and any changes since your previous test.
What if something is outside the reference range?
We’ll point it out during your results walkthrough. A result outside the laboratory’s reference range does not always mean there is a medical problem, but it needs to be considered alongside your other results, symptoms and medical history. Your own GP or clinician can advise on any follow-up needed.
What happens if a result needs urgent attention?
We’ll contact you directly and provide a letter explaining the findings to share with your GP. This is part of our standard service.
How often should I repeat the test?
That depends on what you’re monitoring and why. Some markers change over weeks, while others need longer before a repeat measurement is useful. We encourage planned comparisons during your time at Breathe, with timing guided by our nurse.
Can my results help me decide whether I need an IV or vitamin injection?
Relevant results can inform a discussion with our nurse about whether treatment is appropriate. A low result doesn’t automatically mean an IV or injection is the best option; the cause, your symptoms and other treatment choices also matter.
Does this replace seeing my GP?
No. These panels provide information about the markers tested, but they do not rule out every condition or replace an assessment of symptoms. Keep your usual medical appointments and share relevant results with your treating clinician.
