01 · Your DNA
The instructions you inherited
Your DNA carries the instructions your body uses to develop and function. Small differences in that code help explain some of the variation between us, including how we process nutrients and respond to exercise.
- A
- T
- C
- G
02 · Your genes
There’s more to them than eye colour
Genes are sections of DNA with particular jobs. By looking at selected genetic variations, the test identifies tendencies linked to your health and fitness, giving you more context for the choices you make every day.
03 · Your epigenetics
Another layer of information
Chemical marks on your DNA help regulate how genes are used, without changing the underlying code. The test examines a type of marking called DNA methylation, which researchers also use to study ageing.
04 · The switches
Your biology responds to your life
Epigenetic patterns can change with age, lifestyle and environmental influences. How you eat, move and live forms part of that picture, alongside factors that are outside your control.
- Sleep
- Food
- Movement
- Stress
- Smoking and alcohol
- Age and environment
05 · Your test
Bring the two together
One saliva sample provides your genetic profile and an epigenetic assessment, including a biological-age estimate. Together, they give you a starting point to explore, with guidance to help you decide what deserves your attention.
Two parts of the picture
What you inherit, and what can change.
The two parts of your test answer different questions. Your genetic profile explores inherited tendencies, while your epigenetic results look at patterns that can change over time.
DNA
Discover genetic variations associated with areas such as nutrition, metabolism, fitness and recovery. These results give you a lasting reference to return to as your interests and goals change.
- Explore inherited health and fitness tendencies
- Add context to your nutrition and training choices
- Keep your genetic profile for future reference
Epigenetics
Explore selected DNA methylation patterns and how they relate to ageing. A later test lets you compare those results with your starting point and discuss what the differences might mean.
- See your estimated biological age
- Establish a baseline for future comparisons
- Revisit your results as your routine changes
A simple way to picture it
Same piano, different music.
Think of your DNA as the piano and epigenetics as part of what influences how it is played. Having the same instrument doesn’t mean the same music will follow.
Your inherited tendencies are part of the story, alongside your environment, experiences and habits. Looking at both genetics and epigenetics gives you more to work with than either alone.
What you’ll discover
Make it personal, right down to the details.
Perhaps you want to understand your nutrition better, get more thoughtful about training or take a closer look at how you’re ageing. Your results bring together insights across several areas of everyday life, so you can start with the ones that interest you most.
Nutrition and metabolism
Explore genetic tendencies linked to how you process food and use certain nutrients. These can help focus conversations about your diet and whether further testing would be useful, rather than adding another supplement to the cupboard without understanding why.
Fitness and recovery
Learn about genetic traits associated with strength, endurance and recovery. Consider them alongside your training experience, how you feel and what you want to achieve when shaping your routine.
Sleep and stress
Explore tendencies related to sleep and stress response, giving you another perspective on your everyday patterns. Your experience still matters, and the results give you more to discuss when deciding where to focus.
Biological age
See how your DNA methylation patterns compare with age-related reference patterns. This gives you an estimated biological age and a baseline you can return to with a later epigenetics test.
Your results are available in our dedicated app, where the included AI Health Coach offers personalised lifestyle suggestions. We’re here to help you understand the findings and think through your next steps.
Putting your results to use
Bring it back to everyday life.
The useful part is what happens after you’ve read the report. You might want to look more closely at your diet, make room for recovery or find a sleep routine you can sustain. Your results give those conversations a more personal starting point.
We’ll help you consider the findings alongside how you feel, what you already know about your health and what is realistic for you. You can choose a few priorities and give them proper attention.
- Your sleep routine
- Movement and training
- Food and nutrition
- Rest and recovery
- Managing stress
- Alcohol and smoking
- Environmental exposures
- Changes as you get older
From sample to something useful
A simple sample, with plenty to explore.
Take your saliva sample
Your kit includes a collection tube and instructions to follow at home. If you’d prefer support at Breathe, we can help you through the process and explain what happens next.
Let the lab do its part
Your sample is analysed for selected genetic variations and DNA methylation patterns, which are used to build your genetic and epigenetic reports.
Get to know your results
Explore your reports in the app, with personalised suggestions from its AI Health Coach. There’s also time to talk through your results with Breathe, ask questions and consider what you’d like to focus on.
Come back to the changing part
Once you’ve completed your first test, the £220 epigenetics retest lets you revisit your biological-age estimate and epigenetic results. We can discuss when a comparison would be useful and how to interpret it alongside changes in your life.
Build the full picture
Different tests answer different questions.
Your genetic and epigenetic results can sit alongside other information about your health. Depending on what you want to understand, another type of assessment may help answer a more specific question.
Measure your current levels
Depending on the panel, blood tests can measure markers such as vitamin D, iron status, blood sugar and cholesterol. They help distinguish an inherited tendency from what is measurable in your blood today.
VO₂ max and RMRUnderstand your fitness and energy use
Measure your aerobic fitness and the energy your body uses at rest, adding practical information to conversations about training, nutrition and recovery.
IV drips and vitamin shotsTalk through suitability with our nurse
If you’re considering an IV or vitamin injection, our nurse will assess your health, relevant results and suitability. A genetic tendency alone doesn’t establish a deficiency or a need for treatment.
A few things worth knowing
Before you choose your test.
What’s included in the £450 test?
The kit combines DNA analysis with an epigenetic assessment, including an estimate of your biological age. You receive app-based results covering areas such as nutrition, fitness, recovery, stress and ageing, with an AI Health Coach offering personalised lifestyle guidance. The Breathe team can also help you understand your results and discuss what interests you most.
What’s the difference between this and the £220 retest?
The £450 kit is your starting point and includes both your genetic and epigenetic profile. The £220 kit is for people who have already completed that initial test and want to update their epigenetic results. It isn’t a lower-cost alternative for first-time testing.
What is the difference between DNA and epigenetics?
DNA is your genetic code, while epigenetics refers to chemical modifications that help regulate how that code is used. Your inherited genetic profile is largely stable, whereas epigenetic patterns can change with age, lifestyle and environmental influences.
What does biological age actually tell me?
It is an estimate calculated from age-related patterns in your DNA methylation. It gives you another way to explore ageing, rather than simply counting birthdays. It isn’t a measurement of every organ, a prediction of your lifespan or a diagnosis.
Can I change my epigenetic results?
Epigenetic patterns can change, and research links some of those changes to lifestyle and environmental factors. A retest lets you compare measurements over time, although a change in your score doesn’t, on its own, prove that a particular habit or treatment caused it.
Will this tell me which vitamins I’m deficient in?
It can identify genetic tendencies associated with how your body handles certain nutrients, but it doesn’t measure your current vitamin or mineral levels. Where a deficiency is a concern, an appropriate blood test and clinical assessment may be more useful.
Do I need to have blood taken?
No. This test uses a saliva sample collected in the tube provided. Follow the kit instructions carefully so the lab receives a suitable sample.
Will someone help me understand the results?
Yes. You can explore the reports and AI-guided suggestions in the app, and speak to the Breathe team about what they mean for you. We’ll help you put the findings into context and identify questions that may need a qualified clinician’s input.
How often should I retest?
You generally don’t need to repeat the inherited DNA analysis. Epigenetics retesting is optional, and the timing should reflect what you want to compare and the provider’s guidance. Speak to us before ordering if you’re unsure whether it’s the right time.
Is this a medical diagnosis?
No. These are lifestyle and wellbeing reports that describe tendencies and statistical estimates. They don’t diagnose a condition, establish the cause of symptoms or replace medical investigations. If you have symptoms or a concern about your health, speak to your GP.
Can I take the test at home?
Yes, the kit is designed for home sampling. You can also speak to us at Breathe if you’d like help understanding the process before you begin.
What happens to my genetic data?
Testing and app-based reporting are provided through Muhdo. Before registering your kit, read its privacy and consent information, including how your sample and data are handled and your options for deletion. We can help you find those details before you decide.
