How Alpha-Stim works

Alpha-Stim is a medical device that delivers a very low-level electrical current to the body. It is designed to support the treatment of conditions such as anxiety, insomnia, depression, and pain.

The science behind the therapy

Current evidence suggests that the microcurrent interacts with the body's electrical and chemical signalling systems. The brain naturally communicates through electrical activity and neurotransmitters. The gentle current delivered during CES influences these processes, helping to support the regulation of neural networks involved in mood, sleep, stress responses, and pain perception.

Studies have shown changes in brain activity patterns following CES treatment. Researchers have also proposed effects on neurotransmitters such as serotonin and other pathways involved in emotional regulation. It is important to remember that Alpha-Stim does not "force" the brain to change.

Instead, it is thought to provide a gentle stimulus that may help support the brain's natural ability to regulate itself.

This small device can make big changes...

Alpha-Stim uses gentle Cranial Electrotherapy Stimulation to help support the brain’s natural regulation of mood and stress responses.

Many people use Alpha-Stim to support insomnia and poor sleep, helping the nervous system move towards a calmer, more regulated state.

Treatment is delivered through small ear clips using a very low-level current, with no medication and no needles.

Alpha-Stim may be used alongside existing support such as medication, counselling, physiotherapy or wellbeing treatments, where appropriate.

Clinic-grade calm at home.

Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions? We’ve got answers

Can I use Alpha-Stim if I’m on SSRIs?

Yes. We have free parking available directly outside the studio on a first-come, first-served
basis, which is usually sufficient for our sessions. There is also paid on-street parking nearby
if needed. If you ever have trouble finding a space, just let us know and we’ll help.In many cases, yes. Alpha-Stim is often used alongside existing treatments, including medication, but you should never stop or change prescribed medication without speaking to your GP or prescriber. We’ll always check your health background first so we can make sure it’s suitable for you. Clinical studies have allowed people on stable SSRI/SNRI doses to take part, and Alpha-Stim’s own guidance frames it as something that can sit alongside other therapies rather than replace them.

Will Alpha-Stim make me feel sleepy or spaced out?

In most cases, no doctor’s referral is required. All clients complete a pre-treatment health
assessment and have a one-to-one consultation with a trained HBOT practitioner before
their first session.

However, depending on your medical history or condition, we may ask for medical clearance
or a doctor’s note before proceeding, purely to ensure your safety. Most people don’t feel “drugged” or out of control. Some feel calmer, heavier, lighter, sleepy, or quietly switched down afterwards. Others barely notice anything during the session but feel the effect later in their day or sleep. You can rest during it, but you don’t have to be completely still or silent.

How quickly will I know if it’s working?

Just yourself. We provide everything you need for your session. You’re welcome to bring
socks, a book, but many people choose to rest or relax during
their time in the chamber. Some people notice a shift after one session, while others need regular use before they can judge it properly. The best way to look at it is nervous-system training rather than a one-off magic switch. We usually suggest trying a small run of sessions so you can see whether your sleep, anxiety, mood, pain, or general regulation starts to change.

Who shouldn’t use Alpha-Stim?

Alpha-Stim is not suitable for people with implanted pacemakers or implanted/wearable defibrillators. If you are pregnant, have epilepsy, a complex neurological condition, or any concern about whether it is right for you, we’ll ask you to get medical advice first. Official Alpha-Stim risk guidance lists pacemakers and defibrillators as contraindications, and notes that stimulation safety has not been established during pregnancy.

Can I use Alpha-Stim if I have ADHD, autism, PTSD or a very sensitive nervous system?

We accept card payments and offer both single sessions and memberships. Memberships
provide the best value and flexibility, with monthly options available. Digital gift cards can
also be purchased online.Often, yes — but we would start gently. Alpha-Stim is commonly used by people whose nervous system feels overactive, wired, anxious or difficult to switch off. For sensitive clients, we keep the session calm, low-pressure and adjustable, so you never feel pushed through something that feels too much.

Can I drive or go back to work after Alpha-Stim?

Most people can carry on with their day afterwards, but some feel very relaxed, sleepy, light or slightly “switched down” after a session. We recommend giving yourself a little time after your first treatment to see how your body responds, especially before driving or going straight into anything demanding. Side effects are generally reported as mild, with dizziness, headache or skin irritation among the more commonly listed effects.
